Pilot Implementation of Smart Solutions at Academia Maribor Campus DigitalGreenConsumption-30

As part of the DG-VET-30 project, Academia – Higher Vocational College in Maribor – has successfully carried out the first pilot implementation of smart solutions for the digitalization and energy optimization of the learning environment.

In the classrooms of the campus, the SwitchBot system was installed, enabling centralized control of key devices such as projectors, TV screens, air conditioners, and lighting. With just one click, users can easily adjust classroom conditions – turning on projectors, setting air conditioning, or dimming and activating lights. In addition, window sensors were installed to monitor openings, reducing energy loss during heating or cooling.

The integration of these smart technologies represents an important step toward transforming traditional classrooms into smart learning environments, where physical devices are connected to digital infrastructure, allowing both energy savings and an enhanced user experience.

Through this pilot, several key objectives of the DG-VET-30 project were achieved:

  • Green transition and sustainability – By improving control over devices, lighting, and spatial conditions, energy consumption is optimized, the carbon footprint is reduced, and campus operations become more sustainable.

  • Smart learning environment – Modern classrooms now allow quick adaptation of teaching conditions, enhancing lecture quality and interactivity between students and lecturers.

  • Digital transformation of VET institutions – The introduction of smart devices connecting physical and digital infrastructures lays the foundation for the further development of fully digitalized and connected campuses.

  • Enhanced user experience – Easy remote control allows teachers to focus more on the educational process, while students enjoy a more comfortable and adaptable learning environment.

The pilot at Academia Maribor represents an important milestone in developing digitally advanced, energy-efficient, and sustainable VET institutions that will serve as examples across Europe and support the overall vision of the DG-VET-30 project.
